I had a wonderful weekend in D.C. with my very good friends Joe and Kelly. We saw a great exhibit at the National Portrait Gallery called "Hide/Seek" about sexuality and gender in portraiture, walked around Georgetown on a perfect Fall day and marveled at how much I like D.C. subway stations. (Between the dim lighting and the concrete vaulted ceilings, it's very dramatic and striking. So different than here in NYC.)

There are A LOT of interesting things going on in the home of Jeffrey Moss, as chronicled in Chicago Home and Garden. The clusters upon clusters of B&W photos, the display of walking sticks, the books lining the staircase and wonderful and unique objects throughout the space. I love the mix of textures and materials set against crisp white walls. Very interesting indeed.

I really enjoyed reading an article on Artist Roxy Paine in the Sunday Times. He creates giant stainless steel sculptures called Denroids out of industrial piping. They resemble gleaming trees, but upon further inspection the branches are more like nerves and energy stretching outward. Truly beautiful.

How have I never been exposed to the work of Designer Carl Aubock? A well known figure in Austrian modernism in the early 20th Century, Aubock's work embodied craftsmanship, simple forms, humor and clean lines. This post marks my 200th here at A Tall Drink. What a journey it has been since I randomly started this blog back in October 2007. It wasn't until over a year later that I discovered what I was really passionate about and what A Tall Drink would become. Simply put, this blog is a true reflection of me and the things that I enjoy more than anything else. Great article in the NY Times Style magazine today about Dorset, England, a sleepy bit of coastline on and the English Channel two hours from London. There's some great design events happening this weekend in NYC. I have been eagerly anticipating Housing Works Design on a Dime since I first learned of the event last year. It's an event that features rooms created by some fantastic designers, and you can purchase the homewares, furniture, etc that are featured with proceeds benefiting NY Residents with HIV/AIDS.

I'm a big fan of the work of Swedish Artist Michael Johansson. His work involves objects that have been packed into cubes and rectangles and other odd nooks and shapes. I think it's the juxtaposition of chaos and order I find so appealing here. Great stuff.
