Inspired By: Haus Interior

Haus Interior is an interior design firm as well as a retail shop (pic above) here in NYC. I think their work, as well as the decor and furnishings they sell in the shop, is simple but makes a  bold statement.

I love this play on the chevron stripes. It adds so much punch to a simple room.

Great Goldberg Lamp by Tanner & Kenzie.

How amazing are these! Nautical and elegant serving pieces.

And these Hors D'oevres Pics. So fun

Kentucky Home

Check out the Lexington, Kentucky home of Fashion Designers Mark Badgley and James Mischka. This is sooo right up my alley... very stately and traditional, yet charming.

I love this living room and the leather sofas. So understated, so chic.

And a white kitchen with subway tiles! YES. I adore this place.

Wrapped Up

No Way! Furniture that looks like brown paper packages!  The "paper" is actually fabric and the package itself is made of soft foam. This is totally amazing. I would love to see these used as auxiliary seating in a modern space or even as an ottoman or coffee table.

Dressers

So I've been looking for a dresser on craigslist and I'm not having much luck. (There are so many ugly ikea dressers to sift through!) I did find this beaut though.

This is really more of a credenza, but I quite like it. At $275, it's way over my budget though. Drat.

Details, Details, Details

I'm reminded of how simple, unique details can really make rooms from the "Schoolhouse Decor" feature from the H&G Section of the NY Times a few weeks ago. Great stuff.

Do I like it?

So I'm not completely sold on this Stuga rug from Ikea, but I think that it could be amazing in the right space. Thoughts?

JFK for Sale

The first home that JFK lived in in Washington DC is up for sale. It's not the most beautiful home in the Georgetown neighborhood (the flat roof is kind of odd, no?), but oh the history! I'm a big fan of the whole draw of JFK and I do love an historic row house.

Inspired By: Scott Horne

In the second installment of Inspired By, I give you the work of Scott Horne, an amazing prop and interior stylist represented by Big Leo Productions. I recognized a lot of Scott's work from the excellent, now defunct Blueprint magazine. I love his use of color and shape to create such clean, visually interesting work.

Organizing Sunday

Yesterday I took on the rather daunting (and hotttt) task of cleaning and organizing my BF George's bedroom. After buying a bevy of storage containers from our local Target, I tackled the closet. I have re-organized a few closets before, but never one that contained so much stuff. Things really started to come together once I placed like objects in groups, color coordinated and stowed away things that were not being used.

Before

After

I don't have a before pic of the fireplace, but lets just say the entire mantle was covered with loose odds and ends and a layer of caked on dust. I consider the room to still be a work in progress, and the real design hasn't even begun, so stay tuned for more updates!

Artfool...Uh Wow!

Artfool is an event design company that creates some truly incredible events. It's no surprise that they have worked with Martha and been featured in pretty much every bridal magazine. I think their centerpieces and tablescapes are some of the most amazing I have ever seen. Seriously gorgeous!

Crew Cuts

The Crew Cuts (J. Crew's kids line) catalog has some of the cutest and freshest prop styling (and clothes)! It's so fun and adorable I practically want a child so I can dress them up in this stuff. It's almost like a colony of preppy children dressed like adults living in an artsy forest. Ha

Creators Inn

The Creators Inn is this fantastic new hotel within a hotel in Stockholm which is meant to be a place for traveling creators to stay in. I think it's really fresh and fun and is kind of a great idea. The room certainly looks like it would belong to a person in a creative field.
