Roped In

I discovered a wonderful product designer named Christien Meindertsma. Her flax rope products are cool, classic and so good looking.
This is definitely the chicest extension cord I have ever seen.

Brooklyn & Junk

Scenes from my recent outing to Junk (a favorite vintage store) in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. They have some great stuff, always changing and the prices are super reasonable.

I have walked past this abandoned building/storefront in Brooklyn many times. The facade is totally weathered and it has so much character.  Finally decided to snap a pic, and I kind of love it.

They had several of these Bicentennial glasses. I'm a little obsessed with Americana, so these are right up my alley. $2.99

Industrial-ish lighting. Very tempted to go back and get one of these. $19.99 each

Tons of seltzer bottles. I think $14.99 each.

Cool graphic floral artwork. $49.99

Inspired By: Alec Soth

I recently read about Alec Soth, a fantastic photographer based in Minneapolis, in the March Issue of Elle Decor. I'm completely drawn to his landscapes and the quiet beauty they evoke. Here is some of his work from the series "The Last Days of W", "Sleeping by the Mississippi" and "NIAGRA"

Martha- The Tall Show

I had the pleasure of attending a taping of the Martha Stewart Show last week.  It was especially fitting for me, and this blog, as it was a show devoted to all things TALL. I jumped at the chance to get tickets when I first heard about this show, and it was truly as enjoyable as I had imagined. (Note: The show airs tomorrow, Thursday Feb, 18th)

Here I am seated in the studio. Note the ruler name tag we all sported with our name and height. At 6'5", I expected to be one of the tallest, but even I was dwarfed by a couple audience members around 7'5".

My friend Matthew gazing out onto Martha's world.

The studio was actually larger than I had thought. It's so wide in fact that I couldn't capture it in one shot. And there is quite the flurry of activity going on throughout the taping.

One of the segments was Martha and Chef Alain Roby making the top layer to this massive cake, which was around 10 feet tall. A large step ladder was needed to put the top layer on, as well as a big ole' cherry made of sugar.

Later, we all got to sample a piece. Tasty!

Martha also spoke with Arianne Cohen, Author of "The Tall Book"  We all took home a copy, and it's a fascinating read. Did you know tall people, in general, make more money, are smarter and live longer? I'm just sayin...

After the show, Martha answers a few questions (in her 6 inch YSL heels). All in all, a great tall experience I'll never forget.

Olympic Time

Tonight is the start of the 2010 Winter Olympics and I couldn't be more excited. The Olympics have always been something I really, really enjoyed. I literally spent hours as a child drawing Olympic logos and building my own Olympic Village out of blocks. I remember getting this great book for Christmas one year and reading it endlessly. I also adore the opening ceremony, since it combines theatrics, design, culture and entertainment. My heart literally races when I think about it. What I also love is the fantastic design and branding of each games from the logo, to posters, to the medals to design of venues.

The medals are each unique and are cast from re-used circuit boards.

Small, Clever & More

I don't think I have quite mastered the "more is more" design  aesthetic, but I am such a big fan of it. I also love small, cleverly designed spaces. Enter Zach Motl's apartment, as profiled in the NY Times. It really exemplifies artfully filing a space with tons of things while maintaing order and maximizing a small space. I greatly enjoy this space and all the fantastic objects and style on display.

Scandinavian Style

Scandinavian homes and interior design have always inspired me. Something about the simple lines, muted colors and utilitarian design just speak to me. Here are some great images of homes and interiors from the blog My Scandinavian Retreat. Makes me want to take a little trip up North!

Recycling In the Bag

Here's a cool idea for keeping recycling in order I spotted at Apartment Therapy. It's a simple steel frame from Matteria that holds a bag up so it won't spill over once it's filled with recyclables. I totally need this! It's simple, not bulky and it actually looks kind of chic.

Be Mine- Flowers

So Valentine's day is fast approaching, and I think the only thing one needs are some great flowers and perhaps a nice meal. Here are some fantastic flowers from Martha Stewart. *Speaking of Martha, I'm going to a taping of her show on Thursday!
