The purity and simplicity in Shaker design, along with the drive for perfection in all things they created is truly fascinating to me. The Shakers left behind some amazing works, the Round Stone Barn at Hancock Shaker Village (top image) among the most impressive. Would love to visit someday.

In the District
I had a wonderful weekend in D.C. with my very good friends Joe and Kelly. We saw a great exhibit at the National Portrait Gallery called "Hide/Seek" about sexuality and gender in portraiture, walked around Georgetown on a perfect Fall day and marveled at how much I like D.C. subway stations. (Between the dim lighting and the concrete vaulted ceilings, it's very dramatic and striking. So different than here in NYC.)

Icebox
The Richard Chai Pop Up Shop here in NYC is pretty amazing. Designed by Brooklyn's Snarkitecture, it's basically a snow cave housed in a metal box. Definitely one of the coolest retail spaces I've ever seen.

Roman & Williams
I'm certainly not the first person to sing the praises of design firm Roman and Williams. I enjoyed reading an interesting article on the firm in NY Mag that detailed the duo's rise from production designers to a highly sought after design team behind the fab Ace Hotel. I love their aesthetic, no doubt about it.

Nimis

This is AMAZING. A giant wooden structure called Nimis (meaning "too much" in Latin), built by ONE man in a nature preserve in Sweden. MUST SEE THIS in person some day.
